I purchased this item in June 2009 and have used it for about 3 months. The unit does a very good job (clean, easy to view graphics, good sound, lots of helpful prompts, many custom settings) when it works; work being the operative word. It has a tendacy to not want to turn on, or to rapidly turn itself off once on (this can be a frustrating game after awhile). It also can be very slow to acquire satellites, so you will probably need to know the general area you are heading to as it may take up to 5 minutes to acquire one. Their tech support leaves much to be desired, as when I broght this to their attention they were more interested in informing me of their repair costs than on discussing the problem, especially on what should have been a warranty issue. Bottom-line: if you get one as a gift, you may want to stick with it.
