This mount seems to be better than the factory original. At first I was concerned that the "neck" of the mount with the knob on the end to which you attach the Garmin was stationary and didn't move up and down like the factory original. However, I have found that not having the up and down movement of the neck decreased the likelihood that it will snap off while trying to mount or dismount the unit.
I had to purchase this mount because the hinges on the neck of factory original mount snapped when my wife was trying to take the unit off the mount.
