Buying Garmin nüvi 275/275T 3.5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic

I recently took my Nuvi 275T to England and Poland on travel. Thanks to its compact dimensions, the Nuvi 275T and accessories pack very easily in a carry on bag. Initial satellite acquisition takes a minute or less. I used the optional Garmin friction mount which I found really convenient since you basically throw it up on the dash. While some may wish for a larger screen, I found the 3.5" screen perfect in about 1000 miles of driving. The contrast and legibility of the images and text are superb. I downloaded a few POI files before I left for my trip. Transferring files on both a PC and a Mac is uncomplicated and I was able to use the files to find some locations in the UK.
The 275T had no problem navigating the streets of small towns on the south coast of England and most importantly it got me to the rental car return location at Heathrow airport the first time which many probably know can be a real chore. I can't comment too much on the overall POI database but it was able to find the important stuff such as banks, gas stations etc. easily. The speed camera warning feature was also very effective in the UK, using an icon on the screen and an alert sound. The small size of the unit and the ease with which it can be disassembled from the friction mount meant that parking and stowing the GPS out of sight was a simple process. In Poland, I switched the spoken language to Polish and the unit announced the directions in clear and excellent Polish (according to my companion). We drove to a mountain ski resort and the Nuvi had no problem finding it. At those times when I left the unit unplugged from power, I found the batttery life to be excellent. This proved to be handy for pedestrian use or playing with routes in the hotel room. It can however be plugged into the USB port of a laptop or desktop for charging if necessary.
For travellers who need a GPS with US and Europe maps included, I think the 275T is an excellent value proposition.Get more detail about Garmin nüvi 275/275T 3.5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic.

Buy Garmin nüvi 255W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished)

This is my favorite GPS.
Specially for the price. It is refurbished, but it came with the newest maps. Just needed to update the software when I registered & Im good to go. you still get the Free map update in 60 days anyway.
The 255W has better software update for the GUI, has a better TTS voice (sounds more like a person - samantha) and has a louder volume.
I also had the Garmin 780, but the GUI software lacks some info on the display and functionality, and the voices sound more like a computer.
If you dont need to save routes, the 255W is basically the same (less the extra features of external speaker, blutooth, FM transmitter & the traffic thing... none of which I have wanted/needed to use)
The coolest thing about the 780 (why I bought one) is the power cord plugs into the wwindow clip, not the unit. So when you un-clip it, you can just throw it in your pocket & go without having to unplug the unit. Unplugging the unit is no big deal, but if you unplug it & plug it in several times a day for a while, i'm sure it will break sonner than later - its just a mini USB, and unfortunately in todays society, you cant just leave it in your car because someone will break in to steal it.
Despite that, I sold my 780 for a 255W. Once you use a 255W for a while, and then use a 780, you will feel like you have an older model with old software & voices... the 255W operates like a newer model.Get more detail about Garmin nüvi 255W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished).

Purchase Garmin nüvi 1390/1390T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic

The GPS seems to be a good product with one big fault- documentation. The 8 page booklet that comes with the GPS only gives set-up instructions, not a detailed how to. I called Garmin was was told that they have "gone green" , they don't include instructions, and I should download from the website. I looked at the website and found that the instructions ran more than 50 pages so Garmin is transferring their costs to me. After calling back and raising hell, they agreed to mail me the instructions. A poor way to run a railroad.

Otherwise the GPS is what I was looking for.Get more detail about Garmin nüvi 1390/1390T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic.

Order Garmin nüvi 765/765T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished)

This 765T is easy to set up and use. Maps are accurate and it gets you where you want to go. The only problem I have had is the 765T is a little slow to update itself while driving, especially if you have to vary from the planned route slightly. It seems so accurate that when you go even a few yards off route, like a minor detour for road repairs, it begins a recalculation and once or twice has given me incorrect vocal instructions then a few seconds later corrects itself again. This could be bad if you are coming into an unfamiliar intersection that might be under construction - the car gets ahead of the recalculation and you might miss a turn. The beauty of this GPS is that it can always recalculate again and get you back on track. Well worth the bucks.Get more detail about Garmin nüvi 765/765T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished).

Shop For TomTom ONE 140 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator

Have you ever seen that scene in Office Space where they go all gangster on the Copy Machine because it keeps fouling up? Thats how this GPS makes me feel. I was warned by a few people that the life of a Tom Tom is very short because dropping it a few times in your car is enough to break it. I laughed at these warnings because mine was working fine. Sure enough, mine is now broken after less than three months of service and I didn't drop it once. Since I didn't buy a warranty because money was tight, I am screwed. Now you will excuse me while I destroy this thing with a baseball bat. Get more detail about TomTom ONE 140 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator.

Garmin nüvi 265W/265WT 4.3-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Integrated Traffic Receiver (Factory Refurbished)

I bought my Garmin Nuvi 265W for use in the fire service. I have a Garmin hand held GPS which is excellent so Garmin was my first choice for purchasing a GPS. Nevertheless my first experience with a vehicle GPS was with a Tom Tom which I liked. I figured that Garmins GPS would be superior to the Tom Tom. What I discovered was that the Garmin had a difficult time finding itself, It would make you go through a series of prompts to get you going, The unit from start up asks you every time where you want to go rather than "waking up" and telling you where you are. It also does not give you many choices if you misspell words ( yeah I know go to school) but for my use trying to spell out of a dead sleep at 2am is really challenging. The good news for people who are wanting to purchase this product is that this unit 's graphics are excellent, once initialized it is very accurate and fast and stays locked on the map. You can see all kinds of geographic features like lakes and tributaries. It even marked out a small man made pond in a new housing development in my town. The suction cup attachment works much better that the Tom Tom version( which really bites). If super speed (in initial start up)is not a need this Garmin is for you. If you need to get to your destination now and I mean right now this unit is not for you. Garmin nüvi 1350/1350T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic Top Quality

I got the Garmin Nuvi 1350T at Car Toys during my Thanksgiving break from college on sale for only $200. When I got home, I charged it, and I even setup my preferences while the unit was charging.

Here are the good features about it:

A. Spoken Street Names
The street names announcement sounds louder than the names announced from my Garmin nuvi 680. Also, I pawned my Nuvi 205W to get this one because I prefer the spoken street names (e.g. "in 0.2 mile, turn right on SE Anderson Rd"), so I can keep my eyes on the road better to enhance safety. Also, being informed for an extra second can keep me from making wrong turns, which can save me time to get to my destination.

B. Traffic
I like how it came with a traffic receiver, so I don't have to spend $120 ordering a separate one from[...]. Once I connected my traffic receiver to my unit, it took a few minutes to acquire traffic status. The unit even "re-calculates" a new route if there's a very severe traffic in my route. There's also color-coding for traffic status: green for traffic is flowing very good, yellow for slow traffic, and red for very severe traffic.

C. ecoRoute
This is great for saving gas and money. I entered my car's city/highway gas mileages and the gas price in the unit to keep track of my gas expenses and gas usage. When the unit processes the information, it even gives me how much worth of gas it will cost me to get to my ultimate destination. There's also the ecoRoute challenge, and the higher score I get the more gas I can save.

D. Speed Limit Indicator
Displayed to the right of the current driving speed, and the speed is shown in red when I go over the speed. I wish there's a way to have the speed shown in red when I go more than 5 mph above the speed limit. For example, suppose I'm driving on a road that has a speed limit of 30 mph and if I drive over 35 mph, my speed is shown in red. I also wish that the unit beeps at me when my speed is shown in red. However, there's some places where the speed limit isn't correct, so I gotta rely on the actual speed limit signs on the roads, especially in construction and school zones.

E. Lane Assist
When I see multiple arrows, the ones highlighted mean that I should be in the proper lanes to get to my destination better.

F. Widescreen
I like the widescreen models better because I get 480 by 272 pixels. Also, there's the QWERTY keyboard!!!!! Another big difference is that I can get the unit to show the speed and three other pieces of information like arrival time, distance to destination, elevation, and direction of travel.

G. HotFix
This feature picks up satellite signals faster than my Nuvi 680.

Overall, I highly recommend it to my friends!!!

Garmin nüvi 755/755T 4.3 Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic Immediately

Garmin Nuvi 755T is a good GPS except its touch screen.

I read about touch screen issues before I bought this product, but I ignored thinking it could be some user fault. I was wrong. The product indeed suffers from touch screen issues.

I often had to press screen multiple times to make my selection work and also often it clicks wrong positon that is well over 1-2 inches apart from the actual positon I pressed (touched). It wasn't screen calibration issue at all as this problem wasn't fixed after screen calibration. It looks like it is issue with the touch screen hardware itself not the software.

It was extremely frustrating when entering street names. I realized mistypo and had to press erase button and of course pressing erase button would type another wrong character instead of erasing one.

I am not sure if this is really an issue for all units, but it seems many people complain about this based on postings on other internet forums. Other Nuvi 7x5 series seem to have the same issues.Get more detail about Garmin nüvi 755/755T 4.3 Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic.

TomTom ONE 130 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator Best Quality

I love my TOMTOM!!! I tease my BF sometimes that if it were down to him and my TOMTOM it would be tough for me to choose which I would take on a trip!!! I have used TOMTOM now in three different cities over the past two years and it has been amazing. I used it extensively in Eugene OR and Vancouver WA and also Spokane WA. I have also used it for long distance trips covering several states. I have used it to find my way to work and back home so many times . . . I can't imagine life without it now!! I have never had problems with the speakers - they are always plenty loud! I usually keep it almost all the way turned down now because I'm pretty aware of it when I'm driving and don't need to hear the prompts. If I'm trying to find a new place in the downtown of a city I usually turn my radio off and the speaker up a bit so that I can concentrate more. I love that you can look and see time estimates for when you are going to get someplace and also that you can change the views and what stats are shown. Also love the directions that you can see in text (just like mapquest) and that you can browse the map. Occasionally newer places it wont find. If you are trying to put in an exact address of a place you found and it doesn't have it I just save the cross street and my memory serves well enough the once I'm there I can find it again anyways. The battery doesn't last forever . . . I would guess about two to three hours. I just keep the charger in my car though and have it wrapped over my steering wheel (my TOMTOM is on the LT side instead of under the rear view mirrow) and it is super easy to just plug in the charger when I get in the car so that has never been an issue. You wont regret getting a TOMTOM!! I'm getting my parents one for Christmas this year!Get more detail about TomTom ONE 130 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator.
