By God's grace, we ordered this item for my dad's birthday and he has enjoyed it very much!! He is an avid fisherman and hunter and he has used it several times for the local lakes. He got the Navonics package for our area and it works great. The only thing he did not like, was that it took him a while to figure it all out. One problem I see is that if you want audio player and also navigation at the same time its not possible in nextar. POI is better categorized in nextar and more update to date than Garmin. Lane guidance is available. The MSN traffic is not directly integrated into your route. It will warn you and you have manually do avoid those routes from the route. Cheap TomTom XL 330 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator

I got this as a gift. I was borrowing a Garmin 650 or something close but in the 6-series... This TOM TOM doesn't feel cheap like the Garmin. Its well designed and slim, not bulky like the Garmin. The display and graphics is of far better resolution than the Garmin. Even though it doesnt tell you the streets you can see it crystal clear on the display, and yes, it sort of drops you off where your destination is but all you have to do is LOOK and you will see it. Are you looking for a GPS to serve your drinks or something? The voices are also crystal clear. This is a far better unit than GARMIN. To me its the difference between eating at Olive Garden (garmin) and a fine dining establishment (Tom Tom). Olive Garden is all bulk and no refinement. Also Garmin would go many miles out of the way to find a location over 15 minutes away, I have not had this problem with the TomTom. The POI are also more thorough than Garmins. I cant emphasize how nice the graphics are on the Tom Toms. And its loaded with options of all kinds. I have not downloaded any maps but I have not needed to. It works perfect out of the package. The unit arrived in a very reasonable period of time.

Short instruction manual contained inadequate how-to information (green attempt by Garvin, they say). Other than that, with the information available on line, the unit does what it claimed.

I have had the nuvi 780 for about a month and yesterday, received a low- battery notification on-screen, which replaced the map while I was using it for directions to a distant location.

The low-battery notification occurred while the unit was plugged into a working DC cigarette lighter outlet in the car and required the nuvi to be turned off since the notification replaced the on-screen map.

The on-screen information is excellent - easy to read and interpret.

The mounting hardware supplied with the unit is excellent in all respects.

The nuvi speaker audio is rather poor quality but the use of a cassette adapter with the car stereo is very good. (I have not tried to use the NUVIs FM output to the car radio but reviews say it is too lacking in power to be useful and my antenna is rear mounted.)

The NUVIs routing voice notifications are bit difficult to understand but they are much better than nothing; it requires getting used to.

Check to see if MS Direct information (trial version comes with the nuvi) is available in your area if you want this service. (It isn't in my area but seems to be available in most or all larger metropolitan areas.)
