I purchased this device for my wife for Mother's Day. I am a truck driver, and for the most part...there is nothing stronger than a trucker's wife. So this 'gift' suited her just well (not the best or most appropriate gift for most women). This device is so clear, loud, and easy to read and understand. It suits her and me just fine. We are not by any means 'tech savvy'. I have read other reviews that have actually educated her and I and I would like to 'THANK' those who have submitted excellent reviews with much information.

For the price I paid I feel this was one helluva great investment. There are times when I am layed over away from home but, within 250 miles. This GPS ensures that she and my babies do not get lost. This unit has already paid for itself. And I would like to 'Thank' TomTom for an exceptionally well priced and terrific product. Cheapest Magellan RoadMate 1470 4.7-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator

Bought the 1470 and worked great right out of the box. I charged it for about 6 hours + then decided to do the latest firmware update (ver. 2.20 release) from the website.

After the update the Magellan bootup screen just sits there forever with no way out. No menus, nothing. I tried cycling the power and reset to no avail.

I did the exact same thing with my 1440 Magellan and the update worked without a hitch. But the 1470 is either defective or a bad firmware update?

Got mine off of amazon about 2 weeks ago, $370 plus $6 shipping. got here in less than 6 business days and was loaded with latest versions of SW, Gps SW and courses. Finally got a chance to play and it works fine. My eyes aren't the best, and sometimes the image was a bit dim and the #s a bit small, but with glasses, everything was clear. I especially liked the features of finding a course near you (it popped up the name of the course i was on immediately, and the feature that shows your distance to green and hazards from where the ball is. drawings of holes are like the ones on the scorecard (fairways only). Distances same as my playing partners sky caddie. but the advantage is you can see all say 3 traps and water location around the green in one picture with distances from where you are. A nice unit for the casual player. I also have a skycaddie 2.5 which I'm willing to sell. My handicap is about 1.5 strokes for each club in my bag plus 6-8 for the putter. The garmin give me instant information which I am occasionally able to make use of in my choice of club.
