Product worked for a short while but then started malfunctioning. The unit would not start or the video would freeze. Sometimes the voice instruction would get "stuck" and loud cracking noises would be heard from the speaker instead. The screen sometimes turned to fuzzy horizontal lines. Turning the unit off and on again when malfunction occurs would not always solve the problem and it had to be reset with a sharp pin (imagine doing that as you're driving!). After many breakdowns, the battery no longer worked when unplugged from the in-car charger, so the portable feature was lost. I once used my Verizon cell phone charger for it and I did not experienced any breakdowns so I stopped using the original "faulty" charger, but the battery remained "dead" (can't hold any charge). I also noticed that now the unit takes a very long time (up to a few minutes)to get a satellite fix but I am not sure if it was caused by cold weather.
The unit was bought over a year ago at Costco for more than $200 and it certainly had been disappointing. I guess Garmin isn't reading reviews on Amazon or just doesn't care that they're making a piece of junk. If the only way to secure a very expensive computer to a bicycle is with a cheap piece of (overpriced) plastic, then the computer should at least come with a short tether, so it doesn't get lost when the plastic attachment unit inevitably breaks. I'm really not sure what I can add to the other comments and reviews. The etrex Vista Hcx works well, connects nicely to my Mac, and I've uploaded a map from gpsfiledepot that gave me streets in my area. This map is not, however, routable, so I'm still stuck with the basic highway map included with the unit. I'm considering buying the City Navigator NT maps to solve this, and I won't know until then how satisfied I am with driving instructions. There's a definite learning curve with this unit, but I'm already feeling more comfortable with it, and it's only my second day of use.

If I was stuck with Garmin maps I'd probably rate this lower, since it's pretty expensive as it is, to then not have decent topo maps or city maps included, but the ability to use third party topo maps makes it a good deal for me. Additionally, the use of a microSD card allows me to choose how much storage I want in my unit.

I already have a GPS from several years ago that was a bare bones GPS that I really enjoyed it was made by Garmin. The Mortolla is much nicer but a little more difficult to use, when driving i want as much ease as possible (note that i did not read the directions and was not interested in the fancy extra features) however when i missed the turn the Mortolla reset in seconds and also has way more POI than any GPS i have used in the past. The voice was very clear and gave me enough time to change lanes before i needed to exit. You get both the map version of where you are going as well as the turn by turn written directions but you have to scroll down to read more than several lines which requires you to push a few buttons (not easy while you are driving). The extra items and the complexity of the GPS make it seem as though it was intended for a copilot to fiddle with while I drive. However I did like the ease that it updated my directions, the speech and clarity of the voice commands was nice. Hands down this is much better than my previous 2 gps and was about the same price. I originally wanted to pick up the Zumo for my motorcycle primarily, but couldn't justify the cost. What I really wanted was for it to be waterproof and have topographical maps. This one does both of those things and costs way less(I think I paid around $239 in 10/09). I use it daily on my service routes for work, on the weekends for trips with the family, and on my motorcycle as well. I like the ease of use and know that I can loan it to a friend and not have to explain how to use it. Sometimes my clumsy fingers hit letters that were not intended, but thats going to happen on a small screen. I wish it had a qwerty keyboard option. I was under the impression that a download was available that would allow text to speech, but I have not found one yet. I have not had a chance to play with the Geocache features yet.
