So, all i really wanted was a smooth integration of Bluetooth without loosing any of the factory units features.
Unfortunately you wont find any of these units on display especially the CAN based systems like the VW.
All you have to go on is the rep and they too have never seen them working!!! So... we install it.
Pros:
Looks great
good mic
Hmm.... that's about it
Cons:
The Blue tooth only sees my phone and others we tried ( Droid, iphone etc) as a bluetooth audio device, not a phone. This meens that any time your Droid enters a media application, it sets the Rosen unit into Bluetooth audio mode. Any other inputs you may have such as the AUX or SAT will be turned off. They come back when you turn off Bluetooth but then you have no phone.. Catch 22 i think!!
Bluetooth will not download phone book on the phones tested. not so much a problem accept that there are no provisions to manually enter a phone book.
Display is too dark. in the slightest sunlight it is not clear
Screen resolution is very poor by todays standards, overall interface is non-intuitive and very frustrating to use. A lot of this is due the the very slow touch to action response time. this is probably because of outdated less expensive processors used.
Factory defaults give you no voice options, you have to do a full reset for the regions menu to show up under which you will find the voice setting.
The wheel control pause button becomes a mute. no good if you are listening to a book.
The voice NAV voice interruption does not pause either, just mute the audio. There are also 2-3 second pauses between guidance instruction and the music mute and un mute. this can total several seconds of lost audio. again bad if you are listening to a book.
There are no provisions for rewind so you cannot get back to where you were before interruption.
Mute just never made sense, pause for goodness sake!
very noise bluetooth audio
navigation prompts so slow that they announce after intersection sometimes. Especially if there are several turns within 1 mile. it simply cant keep up.
AUX hardware does not work with VW hardware!
It is advertised to maintain steering wheel controls. in fact that only partially true as you loose the FF RW feature and skip features on the right hand cluster. Pressing the phone button then the up and down on the left now make the track skip. still no RW FF. and that makes what kind of sense.
Please Rosen, do some user research, get the hardware up to date. Market properly and allow end user to obtain proper documentation so they know what their dealer is selling them.Get more detail about
